Emergency Procedures

First Baptist Church – 255 Woolwich St.

 

Medical

Responsible Usher: Alerts/asks for any medical help in the church and quickly makes the decision whether to call 911.
One usher calls 911 using the nearest phone (bottom of the stairs or outside the gym) and give the address and nature of the emergency.
Another usher goes to the parking lot at the front of the church to meet the emergency vehicle(s) and direct personnel to where needed.
Other ushers to assist as needed.
Elevator operator needs to be ready if the elevator is needed.
Fire or Other Emergency Evacuation
Minister/alternate establishes control from the pulpit and immediately starts an evacuation.
Responsible usher assigns:
One usher is to call 911 using the phone at the bottom of the stairs or outside the gym and give the address and nature of the emergency.
Someone is to go to the parking lot at the front of the church to direct the fire vehicles into the parking lot.
Remaining Ushers and others to assist where needed, particularly at the stairs for the elderly and disabled.

DO NOT USE THE ELEVATOR DURING AN EVACUATION
PEOPLE MAY BECOME TRAPPED!
